Agreed to abjure violence Tripura insurgents surrendered after peace-pact signed

A total of 88 insurgents of the National Liberation Front of Tripura led by Sabir Kumar Debbarma, NLFT-SD group today surrendered before the police in presence of Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb at Ambasa Chandraipara Higher Secondary School ground in Dhalai district of the state. The surrender has come up as per the agreement inked between the Union Home Minister, Tripura Government and NLFT-SD in Delhi.

After five years of peace talks, the NLFT (SD faction), finally, officially surrendered today and returned in main stream of life. Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Debbarma, MP Rebati Tripura, Tripura DGP In-charge Rajiv Singh, Secretary Home Kumar Alok and other higher officials remained present in this programme.

The surrendered cadres will be given surrender benefits as per the Surrender-cum-Rehabilitation Scheme, 2018 of the Ministry. Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb today said, “The Tripura government will ensure all possible help for the all-round development of Tribal areas.” However, in the agreement the Tripura government has assured to help the surrendered cadres in housing, recruitment and education. Centre will consider the proposals of Tripura Government regarding economic development of tribal areas of Tripura.
