“Odissi dance form has a bright future”

By Our Correspondent

She had just finished a three hour long exhausting performance in the Don Bosco auditorium, but when TRIPURATODAY.com approached her for an interview it seemed that noted Odissi dancer Kavita Dwibedi had a spring in her stride. The energy coming out of her made us understand how she has enthralled audiences in over 40 countries across the world over the years. Starting her career in1988 she makes graceful movements like the meandering flow of a river. Her father and noted Odissi dancer Harekrishna Behra was the one to bring her to this line.

“ I was fortunate as I was in Delhi at that time “. She also mentioned that times had indeed changed and now lots of institutions had been offering courses to potential artists. She was also graceful enough in naming her contemporaries who she revered the most by naming Aruna Mohanty, Sujata Mahapatra, Sangita Das and the ever enchanting Sonal Man Singh among others. Due to sheer beauty and elegance of this dance form it remains appealing vis a vis Kathak and Bharatnatyam, she added. Odissi is after all a more elegant and graceful dance form, she stated further. It was also evolving with the times she mentioned while telling us about her recent performance in Palampur in Himachal Pradesh where she had showcased a dance to highlight the global warming threat. Finally, she was quick to claim that she had fallen in love in Tripura and its greenery and hopes to come again and again in the days to come to offer ever more enchanting performances.
