TRIPURATODAY.com has decided to launch a save Howrah campaign. This comes soon after the tripuraudoy campaign started by this website. It is to be mentioned here that the tripura udoy campaign has succeeded in bringing in number of potential investors to the state. These include Mr S K Khemka of Kolkata who has decided to set up a tyre manufacturing unit in the state.

Speaking with TRIPURATODAY.com secretary of Arpan, Mr Bishwendu Bhattacharjee sought certain drastic steps to save river Howrah. “Firstly there must be an attempt to undertake de siltation of this endangered river”, he said. Secondly he added that as a long term initiative the population living on the banks of river Howrah should be shifted to some other area in a systematic manner. Finally, one should ensure that the available water does not flow down to Bangladesh and is used properly. He suggested an innovative method to ensure that there is a smooth supply of safe drinking water even during the lean season. One should dig at a distance of three – vfour kilometers along the river bed. This will ensure that we are able to preserve at least 25 percent of the available water that will otherwise flow to neighbouring Bangladesh, he mentioned. Latest reports said, the supply of safe drinking water in some parts of the state capital will get curtailed tomorrow and day after. This is clear pointer to showcase the critical need to save river Howrah, that is the major source of drinking water to the people of the state capital Agartala and adjoining areas.
