Chairperson of Agartala Municipal Council Mr Sankar Das today presented a budget in the run up to the AMC poll slated to take place later this year. The budget was placed on the same day when Mr Das alongside Chief Minister Mr Manik Sarkar and Urban Development minister Mr Manik De went all out in wooing the electorate by opening a new building complex in the Northern end of the state capital. The 114 crore budget shows a deficit of only 1.05 lakhs.
That the budget has been prepared with an eye towards wooing the electorate is borne out of the fact that there has been a stupendous two – fold increase in the non – plan outlay this time around. After a long time Mr Das has set his eyes on increasing the tax collections of AMC . Hence there has been a natural across the board increase in the rates of issuing trade licenses. Besides tariff for erection of advertisement hoardings and mobile towers has also been increased.
