Even as the Congress president Mrs Sonia Gandhi draws the laurels of the national media fo her success in making sure that the Women’s quota bill scrapes thorugh in the Rajya Sabha the state Congress is unable to reap the benefits of the same. The state Mahila Congress president Mrs Bibha Nath is nowehere to be seen. The PCC president Mr Surajit Dutta who has made a good beginning is being pulled back by the heads of the frontal organisations. And in the forefront among them is the Mahila Congress president Mrs Bibha Nath who is nowhere to be found at this crutial juncture. Leave alone bringing out a congratulatory march thanking Mrs Gandhi for the passage of this historic bill, there is not even a congratulatory statement that has been issued by Mahila Congress.
On the other hand the Nari Samiti, the women’s wing of CPI(M) has grabbed the headlines in the state by claiming that it is behind the passage of the bill. A big march was also organised in the state capital today claiming sucess. Reports from Dharmanagar said, the people of Jubarajnagar assembly segment also do not want Mrs Nath anymore. This after she has sort of set a record of loosing since 1993 at a stretch. Some of the other frontal organisations like Sevadal are also reeling and in proving to be major hindrance to the smooth functioning of Mr Dutta. There is growing demand to bring in new faces in these frontal organisations in the same manner as has been done in Youth Congress and NSUI.
