Union Minister for food processing industries Mr Subodh Kant Sahaya has stated that the UPA government at the centre had adopted different measures in order to usher in industrial development in the North East including Tripura. Speaking with TRIPURATODAY.com in the sidelines of Tripura Food Pro : Investors meet at Pragya bhavan he mentioned that the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh hails from the North East. Hence it was obvious that as per as the Look East Policy of the centre the North East would get extra attention in terms of industrial development in the days to come.He also highlighted the different fields in which the central government was focusing on some key sectors like power, mining, gas, oil and some other key sectors. This makes our priority list for this region and we also concentrating on improvement of the communication links of the region. He reminded that a specific amount in all the central ministries is allocated for the development of the North East.
Coming to Tripura he mentioned that Tripura could become a hub for development of food processing industries . This is so because the state now has the locational advantage whereby the exports of such items could soon become a reality through Bangladesh. He mentioned that the central government was thinking in terms of going for a Public Private Partnership project in order to revive the NERAMAC unit in the state. He made it clear that government on its own cannot run thin unit in the days to come. He also assured that he will make sure that the banks also started to behave responsibly for the development of the North East by increasing the Credit Deposit Ratio.
Clearly Mr Sahaya made his love for the North East in general and Tripura known by attending the North East Business Summit in Kolkata first and the investors meet in Agartala.
