Tripura decorated Soumitra with ‘life time achievement’ award

Pather Panchali, Aparajit and Apur Sansar are three world famous Bengali films that made one unknown young a celebrity of today. He is now seventy years old Soumitra Chattapadhya. He arrived in Agartala on September 15 and attended a graceful programmed where chief minister Manik sarkar decorated him with Life time achievement award. People were very happy to get Soumitra in the town hall and big gatherings were followed there.
At the beginning of the function a screen bearing different dialogues, shots was displayed which reminded spectators the undying events of the actor. Chief Minister also appreciated the work of this versatile actor and said ‘if Soumitra chattopadhya give interest in Tripura’s cultural side, the people here will be benefited”. Speaking on the occasion, Soumitra Chattopadhya said “This is the love of the people of Tripura which brings me in this beautiful state”. State repute singer Tithi Deb Barman’s second album was also released in the occasion that contains a number of Rabindra songs and Soumitra Chattapadhya ‘s melodious recitation on Rabindranath Tagore’s poetry.
In second session of the function, both the singer and the actor presented dually before the audience and received huge clapping. At first Tithi Deb Barman presented the song of “Jakhan porbe na mor payer chinnya” made the atmosphere of the entire hall stunned.
It was said that Soumitra Chattopadhya was a great creation of famous film producer Satyajit Roy who got Oscar award, the biggest film award in the world for his contribution in film producing. The actor in a felicitation function at Don Bosco Auditorium Hall by state leading jewelry shop Shyam Sunder Co did not conceal his inner feelings about Satyajit Roy. He said his last film with Satyajit Roy was Uttaran but Satyajit could not complete the film as he expired in the middle of it. He also said about his most remarkable events with Satyajit Roy.
In the function other dignitaries like Father MC George, principal, Don Bosco School, Kishore Ambuly, DM, west district were present.
Smt. Arpita Saha, proprietress along with husband Rupak Saha, Shyam Sunder Co delivered welcome speech. DM Kishore Ambuly handed over Satyajit Roy Memorial Memento to Soumitra Chattopadhay. Coming to the end of the function, Gopi Gayen Baga Bayen, a famous Bengali film was shown.
