Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, State Minister for Finance, Health and Family Welfare and Education, visited Silchar soon after his Tripura visit. He met the family members of late Santosh Mohan Dev, former Union Minister who passed away at a private nursing on August 2. Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma paid his homage to the veteran leader who had a towering personality. Later, he paid a short visit to BJP Party office, Itkhola at around 10.40 am following an invitation from the members of BJP Mahila Morcha, Cachar district, for tying rakhi on his wrist. An Ashok Stambh idol showpiece was gifted to him by the members of BJP Block Mandal. Addressing a packed hall, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “I am overwhelmed at such arrangements.

Since I have no sisters, I miss tying rakhi which is a sacred thread that protects a brother. Today is a very special day for me indeed. BJP is the only party where ministers, leaders and workers are treated as family members. It is the only party which upholds human beings, humanity, emotions and feelings. I have observed it very keenly that other political parties engage in giving undue importance to individuals. But BJP always think for the welfare and well being of all. Today, I am not on a political visit. I will visit the districts of Karimganj and Hailakandi in the 1st week of September.” Sunil Deodhar, BJP state in-charge, Tripura, who has come all down here, said, “My only wish it that BJP should wipe out the communists from the state of Tripura.

They have failed miserably in providing good governance. I am quite hopeful that as BJP wiped out Congress from this valley, they would be able to do the same with the communists. People of Tripura are spending a miserable life. It is high time that they be uprooted from the roots.” Among others who present on the auspicious occasion included frontline BJP leaders Parimal Suklabaidya, state minister for PWD, Fisheries and Excise, former MP Kabindra Purkayastha, Uday Shankar Goswami, MLAs Mihir Kanti Shome and Kishore Nath, Partha Sarathi Chanda and Niharendra Narayan Thakur, chairperson, Silchar Municipal Board.
