1477 check dams to be constructed under JICA in Tripura to conserve rain water

In line with the centre’s decision and stress and need of rain water conservation, the Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb today said, “A total of 1477 check dams shall be constructed for rain water harvesting. The dams will be constructed under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).” The CM was addressing day long workshop on ‘Product and Industrial use of Bamboo’ on Friday here at Agartala Pragna Bhawan.

He said, “The check dams planned to be constructed shall help cater the need of indigenous people in the hilly region of this state. This will also help benefit the farmers also as the check dams will recharge ground water to make agricultural soil more fertile.” Mr. Deb informed that the project cost would be borne by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). He said, “The second project of JICA shall undertake this project of building check dams.”
