Ratan Lal nath disqualified from membership in assembly under anti-defection law

Five time Congress MLA and former leader of opposition in Tripura assembly, Ratan Lal Nath was on Friday disqualified from membership of state assembly under schedule 10 of the Indian Constitution of anti-defection law.The Tripura Legislative Assembly Speaker Ramendra Debnath informed this and said that failing to reply to the show cause in due time Ratan Nath is being disqualified from his membership in assembly.

Meantime the speaker said that this is for the first time in Tripura that membership in the assembly is being disqualified.Earlier, Tripura Pradesh Congress President Birajit Sinha, in a letter informed the speaker that Nath had joined BJP and also demanded he should be disqualified from the assembly membership.However, the 71-year-old Nath held various posts in Congress and since 1993, was elected five times as Congress candidate from the Mohanpur assembly constituency in western Tripura.
