The Bharatiya Janata Party Tuesday gheraud as many as 69 police stations across the state to show protest against deteriorating law and order situation in the state and demanded the police to act independently and arrest the culprits behind the scenes.

Nearly 43, 000 activists of BJP arrested while staging a gherau programme in almost all the police stations of the state on Tuesday. The main siege police station programme took place infront of  the West police station at Agartala and was led by the BJP state President Biplab Deb.

The main aim of the gherau was to demand the police for independent enquiry of cases where the culprits either get rid off easily from punishments, claiming this Biplab Deb alleged that  over the past one year a number of BJP workers had been killed by CPIM cadres but the police took no action to nab the culprits despite FIRs being filed in police stations.

However, on being asked the BJP spokes person Tuesday evening told the media that the siege police station programme passed off peacefully and no untoward incidents were reported so far.
