India strongly condemns terror attack near a mosque in Egypt; Death toll due to blast mounts to 235

India has strongly condemned the heinous act of terrorism that has claimed innocent lives in Bir-al-Abed, North Sinai in Egypt today. MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said, in this hour of tragedy, the government and the people of India stand by the government and the people of Egypt. He said this incident is another stark reminder of the need to develop a global strategy to fight this menace of terrorism.

Condemning the barbaric attack on a place of worship in strongest terms, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India resolutely supports the fight against all forms of terrorism and stands with the people as well as government of Egypt. Congress President Sonia Gandhi has strongly condemned the Egypt terror attack.

She termed it as an unacceptable act of brutal terror against innocent citizens. She said the horrific attack is yet another deeply disturbing manifestation of the evil forces of terror. Mrs. Gandhi said this cowardly attack is a stark reminder that the persisting menace of terrorism remains a formidable challenge that calls for a concerted and sustained response from the global community.
